I had my first boiled banana yesterday, and turns out – its one of my more popular posts on Facebook. People are flummoxed by the fact that its boiled banana.
My mum told me to make sure I try it because it was delicious. When I ordered it, the man gave me a look and asked twice – ‘no papaya?’. Don’t think he was convinced.
‘No. Boiled banana. Thanks.’
When it arrived — as per the picture above — I was not sure if I just eat the banana fruit or the peel as well. I looked around to see if anyone else was eating a boiled banana, but no luck there. You might wonder why I would consider eating the peel. Well – I was having a curry earlier and what I thought were potatoes were bananas with peels on — still very delicious. So when I got the boiled banana I was confused.
So I did what any digital native(ish) would do and Googled — ‘how do I eat a boiled banana?’
No luck. So ate the banana and left the peel. Figured worse case they will just go – ah, he is a weird foreigner.
Anyways, it was amazing! The texture was like sweet potato and the taste like candied banana. Definitely a winner.
Turns out its pretty easy to make. Get some ripe bananas and boil them with some palm sugar. Thats it. Definitely will give that a try when I am back in Melbourne.
