What am I missing from Melbourne?

Less than a minute

Having been a transplant from Singapore to Melbourne in 2001, there were always things that I missed that were seared in my mind as being from Singapore. Even when I found them in Melbourne, to my mind, they were mere facsimiles. Its not a question of which is better, but rather an emotional relationship in my memories.

So what am I missing from Melbourne?

Obviously the coffee. Not much else need be said about that. You all know how I feel about that nectar of the gods and goddesses.

But I am also missing my favourite breakfast — the classic bacon and eggs. There are so many places to get good B&E, but the best place is Ampersand Cafe in Thornbury.

The scrambled eggs are velvety and moist. They have a consistency of soft cake — just solid enough to stick to your fork, but soft enough to dissolve in your mouth. The bacon is just the right combination of crispy and well cooked with a sheen of bacon oil. Each bite combined with the eggs is a texture crash of soft and crispy!

Sigh… I am headed now to have some lunch here.
